Purpose: Use this article to configure the Achievements area of a Course Template.
The Achievements tab defines the certifications, achievements, qualifications, or completion outcomes associated with a Course Template.
These settings determine what learners can earn after successfully completing Events created from the Course Template.
For the broader Course Template model and navigation across all tabs, see Understanding Course Templates.

What the Achievements tab controls
The Achievements tab defines the certifications, credentials, or learning outcomes associated with a Course Template.
Use the Achievements tab to configure:
- completion achievements associated with the course
- certifications awarded after successful completion
- qualification outcomes linked to future Events
- standard achievement behavior inherited by Events
Achievements and Event delivery
Course Templates define the standard achievement structure for future Events. When a new Event is created from the template, the associated achievements can be inherited into the Event.
Note
Changes made to Course Template achievements affect future Events created from the template. Existing Events keep the achievement structure already inherited into the Event.
This helps organizations maintain consistent completion and certification behavior across repeated deliveries of the same course.
Configuring achievements
Use the Achievements tab to associate certifications or learning outcomes with the Course Template.
- Open the Course Template.
- Navigate to the Achievements tab.
- Add the achievement or certification associated with the course.
- Configure the achievement behavior according to your organization's requirements.
- Save the Course Template.
The available achievement configuration depends on your organization's Administrate setup.
Achievement inheritance
When an Event is created from a Course Template, achievement configuration can be inherited automatically.
This helps:
- standardize learner completion outcomes
- maintain consistent certification behavior
- reduce repetitive Event configuration
- support operational consistency across deliveries
Administrators can still adjust achievement behavior at the Event level if a specific delivery requires exceptions.
Achievement awarding
Achievements are typically awarded after learners successfully complete the Event and meet the required completion criteria.
Depending on configuration, this may include:
- attendance requirements
- completion rules
- assessment outcomes
- manual administrative review
The exact awarding behavior depends on your organization's achievement configuration.
Template achievements vs Event achievements
- Course Template achievements define reusable certification and completion defaults.
- Event achievements define the actual completion outcomes associated with a specific scheduled delivery.
If an achievement should apply to future deliveries of the course, configure it on the Course Template.
If an achievement applies only to one scheduled delivery, configure it on the Event instead.
When to update achievements
Administrators typically update the Achievements tab when:
- certification requirements change
- new completion outcomes are introduced
- the course gains or loses associated qualifications
- future Events should inherit updated achievement behavior
Best practices
- Define achievement behavior before creating Events.
- Use Course Template achievements for reusable completion standards.
- Review Event achievement settings before publishing or delivering Events.
- Use Event-level achievement changes only when the delivery requires exceptions.
- Review template achievements periodically so future Events inherit current completion behavior.
