Purpose: Use this article to configure the Content area of a Course Template.
The Content tab defines the instructional structure and learning materials associated with a Course Template. This is where you describe what the course contains and organize the components that make up the training.
For the broader Course Template model and navigation across all tabs, see Understanding Course Templates.

What the Content tab controls
Content configured at the template level provides the baseline structure for Events created from the template. This allows each delivery to begin with a consistent set of sessions, materials, and learning components.
- the instructional structure of the course
- course modules or session components
- documents and materials associated with the training
- the learning outline inherited by Events
Course content and Event delivery
The Course Template defines the standard learning structure for the course. When an Event is created, this structure can be inherited into the Event’s schedule and delivery outline.
This helps ensure that each Event starts with the same instructional framework, while still allowing administrators to make adjustments for a specific delivery.
Note
Changes made to the Course Template affect future Events created from the template. Existing Events are not automatically updated when template content changes.
Adding course content
Administrators can use the Content tab to define the components that make up the course. These components may represent modules, sessions, or other units of training delivery.
- Open the Course Template.
- Navigate to the Content tab.
- Select the option to add content or course components.
- Define the name and structure of the content item.
- Save the content entry.
Once added, these components help define the structure used when scheduling Events and delivering the course.
Course materials
The Content tab can also be used to associate documents or materials with the course. These materials may include instructor guides, learner handouts, or other instructional resources.
These materials help support consistent delivery across Events.
When to update course content
Administrators typically update the Content tab when:
- a course curriculum changes
- new instructional modules are introduced
- course materials are updated
- a new version of the course is created
Template content vs Event outline
Course Templates define the standard instructional structure, while the Event determines the actual delivery schedule.
- Course Template content defines what the course contains.
- Event outline defines when and how those components are delivered.
If the course curriculum itself changes, update the Course Template. If only the schedule of a specific delivery changes, update the Event instead.
Best practices
- Define course structure clearly at the template level.
- Use consistent naming for modules and learning components.
- Update course materials when curriculum changes.
- Review template content periodically to ensure it reflects the current course design.
