Note: We recommend launching your content in a new window to give you the best overall experience and the most accurate reporting.
This can be set in the LMS section of the control panel. If you do not have access to this setting, please contact support who can enable it for you.
Below is an overview of how our Student Portal deals with the different elements you can upload into your Student Portal
Please note that the Administrate setting will override whatever launch settings you have set in your SCORM package.
SCORM
When exporting your eLearning content to SCORM, you have 2 options which will work in our Portal. SCORM 1.2 & SCORM 2004. Let’s look at how our Portal handles both and some suggestions.
SCORM 1.2
When you publish to 1.2 you usually have 2 options. To either put a % Completion mark on it, or a % Pass/Fail mark on it. SCORM 1.2 content can not report back a completion % and a Score.
Progress
As SCORM 1.2 doesn't support the cmi.progress_measure, our portal will either report back the content in one of 4 stages. Not Accessed, In Progress, Complete or Passed. There is no middle ground where it will say In Progress 50% for example if you are halfway through. It will say Passed if you have content that contains quizzes throughout but no pass mark. From most authoring tools for this type of content, in order to "Pass" you merely have to complete all the content.

Score (Exams/Quizzes)
We use cmi.score.raw for the Score of a learner. This will report back 4 stages. Not Accessed, Passed %, Failed %, or In Progress.
In order for our Portal to track the Score - when you publish your file, you must track using your Quiz result and select Passed/Failed or Passed/Incomplete as the Reporting settings. Here's an example from Articulate 360 for SCORM 1.2:

SCORM 2004
Progress
We use cmi.progress_measure to track progress for SCORM content which is an option in SCORM 2004 files.
If the data is there for the cmi.progress_measure then it will show as Progress % if started but incomplete and Complete once completed.
Our portal will either report back the content in one of 4 stages. Not Accessed, In Progress, In Progress % or Complete.
Score (Exams/Quizzes)
We use the cmi.score.raw to report the Score of a learner. This will report back 4 stages. Not Accessed, Passed %, Failed %, or Progress 0%
You set the pass mark within your authoring tool, which our LMS will interpret as passed or failed in the UI and in the backend TMS. This acts the same for SCORM 1.2 and for SCORM 2004.
In order for our Portal to track the Score - when you publish your file, you must track using your Quiz result and select Passed/Failed or Passed/Incomplete as the Reporting settings. Here's an example from Articulate 360 for SCORM 2004:
Scores (Exams/Quizzes) Best Practice in Administrate
If your content contains an exam with which you are reporting on, please refer to the SCORM types above to see how we report on that.
It is best practice to ensure your content launches in a new window if you are tracking scores. To turn this on:
- Go to the Control Panel
- Search for LMS
- Click Launch SCORM Inline to No
Important!
Pop-up blockers may prevent SCORM content from launching in a new window.
If pop-up blockers are enabled in your users browser, the following message will be displayed.
Note: your users may have to disable browser pop-up blockers to enable the new window.
If you are having trouble getting your window to launch, please contact support.
Attempts
Usually in your authoring tool you are able to set how many times your student is able to retake your exam. If you have not set any Attempts restriction in your SCORM, then it will remain 'In Progress' in the Portal until they Pass. Further to this you have the ability to set an Attempts number in the Event - Outline of the platform. This number will multiply the number you have set in your authoring tool. Again, if you have no attempts set on your SCORM, then this setting will have no effect. Please see below for an example of how this works

Which Score does the UI show?
Whilst you can move from Failed - Passed, once you have Passed you cannot move back to Failed. If you fail multiple times, it will show your most recent failed score. Below are some examples to illustrate this:
Attempt #1 |
Attempt #2 |
Attempt #3 |
Result Shown In the Portal |
Fail 40% |
Passed 70% |
Fail 10% |
Passed 70% |

In addition to this, all attempts are stored in the Platform and you can report on these in the reporting engine or the student history report.
Statuses in the Student Portal UI
Status |
How |
SCORM Type Applicable |
Not Accessed |
If the student has not attempted the content ever |
1.2 & 2004 |
In Progress |
As soon as the student clicks into the SCORM module |
1.2 |
Complete |
Once the student has completed all elements within the SCORM file. There is no graded quiz in this type of file. |
1.2 2004 (if it has completion_status and not success_status) |
Progress X% |
Once a student has completed at least one ‘part’ of the file (could be a slide or other interaction) |
2004 (providing it contains cmi_progress_measure) |
Passed/Failed % |
Once the student completes all the content and achieves the pass mark you have set when publishing the file. Your SCORM must contain cmi.score.raw |
1.2 & 2004 |
Passed/Failed with no % |
Once the student completes all the content but does not achieve the pass mark you have set when publishing the file. Your SCORM must contain cmi.score.raw If there is no cmi.score.raw, or min/max score set in the file |
1.2 (must have lesson_status set) 2004 (must have success_status set) |
How do I know If my file will report the correct statuses?
- The best way is to create a test event in Administrate, enroll yourself as a student and test it out.
- Another great way to test your file is to upload it to SCORMCloud
- Launch your file and then look at the Completion, Success, Score and Total Time
- From there you can access the debug log
- Within the debug log you can look for the required status and see if it is set or not
- For example, in the below screenshot we can see a Score of 20%. To see how that is set, I can look for cmi.core.score.raw and see it returned a score of 20
- With this in mind, I would expect the Administrate Student Portal to also record the score
- To better understand how to set these statuses, refer to your authoring tool to see a) if it is supported and b) how to set it
