Hi everyone, thanks very much for your feedback. Last week we released the ability to control whether or not there is a Whole Event iCal attached to a template, and from Monday you'll be able to choose whether or not this is on a Whole Event or a Session Schedule basis. Here's a preview!

The challenge we ran into with the .ical attachment is that it only has limited information regarding the location and tutor. What students are doing is saving the calendar invite into their calendar and then noticing the day before that the invite does not have very useful information whereas several other communications have been sent to them with the appropriate info.

I shouldn't solution but... assuming that the iCal format is global to all communication triggers (ie. it cannot be customized per template) I would suggest the following:

    • Add the ability to toggle the iCal attachment on/off for each communication template
    • Use the session information to create the invite for classroom/blended courses
    • Allow Super Users or those with appropriate permissions to edit the body of the calendar invite similar to how we can create communication templates. This way we can modify the text to include/exclude the information we want.

Others will likely have suggestions on what would work for them but this seems like it would increase the utility of the attachment.

I agree on the above suggestions to improve iCal. It should be per template or trigger basis and the best is able to choose whether should be split by session. For event that run continuously across 3 days, then we can switch off the per session iCal. Since the event is continuously 3 full days then it does not make sense to have 3 iCal attachments for this case. It is good to have these flexibilities.

    Thank you,

We have been pushing heavily for this to be fixed as we have some events that run over many months and it would end up putting all day events over weeks in someones calendar.
