New Event Emails: Include Attachments from Template and Editor

Problem:
Using the new Event Emailer on the new Events system (for Students / Staff), when we select a template that contains an attachment (e.g. maps, course readings, certificates, etc.), the attachment is not included when sent to the recipient. It is extra work to include the attachment in a separate email, when it's already been specified in the template. In addition, there is no option to include other attachments once you're on the edit screen, like you would with any standard email application.
Proposed Solution:
1. Have the Event Emailer include attachments if the chosen communication template has them
2. Have the Event Emailer include the option to attach additional documents from the email editor

Thanks Penny, this is something we ran across while developing this feature. We opted to release the simpler version and match the functionality on the email button from the opportunity screen, but we did have in mind to add attachments as you suggest in a following iteration, along with updating the opportunities button to match. It's good to hear you'd find this valuable.
Anyone else looking for attachments on these emails?

I would consider this a mandatory feature for the email function here and in the opportunities system. There are too many variables to be able to add these attachments to a template i.e you may have a template to send an email to a prospective customer but you may want a specific brochure/outline attached or perhaps you have a specific document that a student needs to complete but not all.
I would find the addition of attachments extremely useful.

I think it desperately needs to include attachments or have some way of adding them from the event screen - currently if someone mistypes their email when booking and the communication bounces, we resend from within the system and they don't get the attachments which they need to have.

Attachments are here! (at least half-way) As of today's release you can add attachments to the ad hoc emails from either the Sales Opportunities system or the Events. You can upload a file from your computer or choose one from the DMS. This lines up with Penny's item #2 from the original post. It does not YET pull through the attachments on configured on communications templates as in Penny's item #1, but it will soon, the team is working to add that last piece in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks Troy - when you have got item #1 done, will that also mean that attachments are pulled through when event emails configured on the communications templates get resent from events (eg: if someone has mistyped their email when booking and the email has bounced so been resent) or will that only apply to emails sent via the ad-hoc email menu?

Thanks Troy, that's really disappointing as it means we lose the record of what has been sent/when and if they have received/opened/clicked it, and the extra work to find the correct template to send for the event & location, plus risk that the wrong one will be sent.
Should I start a new thread asking for attachments to persist on those emails if they are resent?

Tom, thinking about your situation, that sounds more like a bug than a new feature to be implemented. If you haven't already, put it through the support desk. I'll be talking with the engineers to see if there is any overlap between that and what they're doing with this work, in case the work could be done together, but we should resolve your issue either way.

I'm pretty sure I already put this through the report system and was asked to put up a thread in these forums but added my thoughts onto this one instead as seemed appropriate - it also seems like a bug to me and I was utterly confused when attachments didn't persist on resent emails, I'm sure I would have reported it as a bug initially. I'll have a look and see if I can work out what I did and probably put in a new support ticket if I can't see an old/closed one.
