    Agreed, Mike.  The old Administrate events system did issue such emails and it's something we do miss, having to send a manual notification for things such as event creation, event cancellation and date changes.

    Helen, the new event system does prompt to send emails to students and/or instructors when a significant change happens to the event such as a date change or canceling the event.  Please bring this up with your account manager or support if you're having any issues with this function.
