+1. I totally agree. My previous diary/management soft wear allowed us to allocate a colour to each category of course/event. It made using the diary equivalent of the events screen a million times easier. If you only fixed two things on Administrate this year, colour coding event categories should be one and at the same time ensuing an event that spans more than one day could stay on the same horizontal line would be the other.

Completely agree. Colour coding different course types on the calendar view would be very handy.  Or make colour customisation possible,so we can choose course colours where necessary.

It would be very helpful to have trainers colour coordinated also so we can see at a glance what each instructor has booked in for a week, whilst having all instructors diaries showing rather than having to jump about the screen reading every box.  Having to look at one instructor at a time is difficult when trying to juggle things around in diaries.

At the very least could we have different colours for Private and public courses?

I agree too, we've asked the question, it would be great to see our events differentiated by colour

In our current calendar system we use colour coding to denote what stage the process is at, we would love to customise colours in the system.

We are currently working with a company called Metadigital that we met while up at LITE 2016 who are now creating a customised calendar using the API from Administrate for us. It might be worth speaking with them? From what I gathered at LITE, there are no plans to change the calendar system in the pipeline.

Hi Jadie, I also picked up that this isn't in the pipeline at LITE! But this is why I have added my vote and comment to the product forum. Presumably you are talking about the calendar sitting on your website? This may well help the others who have commented here. We currently use colours in Outlook calendars to represent process stage. But moving forwards I would like to use colours to represent the different trainers in the Administrate calendars. We are not publishing our calendars on our website as our product is 99% private events.

The old calendar in the system did have colour coding, to separate the public/private events for example.   We would love the new calendar to have much better visibility and I'm really interested to read about the Metadigital issue as above.

Another big issue with the visuals on the calendar is that sessions are all up and down across rows where you have multi-day events across a week, but they sessions don't go all across one row.

I agree with all of the comments noted in this thread.  Currently during any busy week, the calendar is not pleasant to look at, and almost impossible to read!

I head up our sales team at Kentec. In regards to the calendar from a sales perspective, I need to know when an instructor or a room is free so I can sell it. Looking through the calendar was taking a long time to do this (average of 45 minutes per proposal once you search each instructor).

We ended up using a whiteboard that we manually update that shows the dates along the top for the month we are currently on and the next month. We then have the instructors names down the Y axis. We then use colour codes that are easy to understand. Metadigital are replicating this using the api from administrate so we have a live updated version on our browser. It will enable my sales team to sell the instructor and room slots better (and quicker) and enable our scheduling team to work quicker too. This is being done at a considerable cost to us though, which is a little annoying as it would be nice to have a well rounded system that takes into account the issues training companies come up against when making a booking (or selling a course).

Thalia, I am talking about the calendar on the administrate system, which is the one I have trouble reading quickly. We run an average of 7-10 courses a day and its a lot to interpret when looking for an instructor that is free. We are essentially going to be building a brand new calendar that works for our company rather than using the administrate one.

This is exactly what we need too.  We have multiple events each day and when they are all the same colour it is really challenging to sort out who is teaching what and where.  I am not finding the calendar easy to use at all.  It ends up being very labour intensive and time consuming to try and sort out scheduling and where my different instructors are each day.  I hope that there is a solution in the works for this and I am not sure that we can make this calendar work in its current format.  We need either a different colour for each instructor or a different colour for each course.  Please can you look at making this happen ASAP.

    We also need this.

here a look of the report we use today (we are not migrated to Administrate yet)

That is a great calendar system - very streamlined.  The colours make it way more intuitive and is a lot easier to figure out.  If the Administrate calendar could give colour options so that we have flexible options for how the calendar is structured that would be awesome.  I am trying to work only in Administrate - otherwise having information in several different places and working between several programs leads to balls being dropped, confusion and inefficiency.  I think this is a critical component that Administrate should look at in their system.

I agree that it should be part of Administrate.  But if not, we will create it ourselves (our current report is made with Reporting Services, the new one will be made with Power BI).  The advantage of having a report like ours is that you can open it easily on another screen (if it is embedded in ADM, you need to open ADM twice).

I think the calendar everyone wants are not something that is achievable with Administrate. However, we have had a bespoke calendar made and it allows our sales team to be able to see availability a lot quicker. Our admin team still use the administrate calendar as that is their preference. It is just a case of getting used to something new.

If you want a bespoke calendar then they have Pro Services that can do that for you.

However, I think rather than colour coded options, the easiest way to be able to clearly see what each instructor is doing, is to be able to filter by instructor when the calendar is set to "all".

Thanks for your thoughts Jadie - I'm glad you have found things that work for you.

One of the reasons that we chose Administrate was to have a better calendar platform, as we were using Google calendar and had outgrown that.  So I would really prefer to stick with Administrate and not use a different calendar.  I am using the filter option to see specific instructors, but when you look at the calendar with'All' selected with multiple courses on each day - the calendar becomes overwhelming and very difficult to work with.  When I am working on scheduling people and programs I need quick and easy access to that overview perspective and I don't feel that the calendar in its present format is offering that.
