Communication Triggers
Completed
It would be great if you could update triggers when you create new courses! As an educational training company we have to adapt and create new courses on a regular basis and it is really time consuming having to create new triggers when we could use the ones already created.

I'm pleased to let everyone know that we have been working on with Communication Triggers.
It's now possible to add and remove Courses on existing Communication Triggers.
Please review our documentation here for how you can add, remove Courses and even see the audit of changes.Thank you to everyone who voted and commented for this idea! Please keep on posting!

I must admit Stephanie, I think it's daft we can't add new courses to active communication triggers too. Our list of communication triggers is horrendous because we are currently unable to do this - we have say 10 separate ones when there could be 1! The process is time consuming and completely unnecessary

I agree with Stephanie and Lindsey - I've had a few occasions where I've missed a course from a trigger, or one of the courses changes fundamentally meaning the triggers are no-longer relevant, and then must either archive the trigger and create new separate ones, or change the wording to make it more generic. Neither option is particularly great.

totally agree!
we've only recently begun using triggers thinking it would make life easier for us!
As Stephanie says, we are also a training provider and constantly changing and adding courses. Not being able to add them to an existing trigger means we are going to quickly end up with a ridiculous number of triggers!
Would it be possible to add something to the Course Template in which you could then select from an existing Trigger list - or create a new one, if required?

I'd like to add my voice to this request please. Having just spent many hours / days on refreshing our entire comms templates and triggers system, it is pretty frustrating to not be able to add new course templates to a trigger with existing history. Even more frustrating that I can foresee a time in the not too distant future where I'm going to have to go through the whole process again due to new courses being added.
In my mind, a much more elegant and useable solution would be to incorporate a trigger selection dropdown into course templates as suggested above. So when setting up a new course I could choose which triggers I'd like to associate with it.

Wow this thread is 3 years old and I cannot believe it seems this is still an issue. As a new customer I find the triggers extremely lacking in usefulness. We should be able to set up standard default triggers that would be generic enough for all events. When we create a specific trigger for a one time event, we should be able to make it over-ride the default trigger for that event - instead we have to go and alter all of the triggers to select each event as they are added to the system. This is a waste of time and resources.
Reminder notifications should be able to be set up more easily with triggers by using schedules instead of having to set up a new trigger for every reminder and every event.
How do we know if anyone from Administrate has seen these ideas?

I know that the product team do keep an eye on the ideas threads.
I'm not sure if its of any help but we have managed to minimise our triggers right down using the Jinja code in the templates (there are like if statements and merge tags). We have a master template and setup additional text to be included if it is a specific course or location etc. Happy for you to reach out to your account manager and ask them to get in touch with us if you want to see how we've done it.
Means we don't have to worry so much about setting up new triggers.
I agree that more intelligence could be included in the Triggers to make the interface more user friendly and to avoid the common issues (for example on registrations often fire for events in the past which is illogical).
Its also a good idea to loop in your account manager as they can raise priority issues with the product team!

Thanks for the comment Paul. In all transparency we've been tight on our ability to work through these ideas in 2020, but this one does come up quite a bit, higher than its vote total represents here. It's certainly on our radar and we're working on ways to free up some resources to knock off popular items like this in 2021. Meanwhile, there are methods to limit the impact of this like Paul says above. Thanks for the feedback!
